Artificial intelligence is transforming health care, but real progress requires more than advanced algorithms. It requires a deep understanding of how clinicians think, diagnose and deliver care. In this session, Pranav Manjunath explores how integrating qualitative clinical insight with quantitative AI research leads to human-centered systems that strengthen clinical reasoning and decision-making.
 

Drawing from his work in traumatic brain injury care, Manjunath will outline practical challenges, emerging opportunities and core design principles for building trustworthy AI solutions that function effectively in real-world clinical environments.
 

About the Speaker:

Pranav Manjunath is a PhD candidate in biomedical engineering at Duke University, where he develops clinician-centric AI systems for traumatic brain injury care. He earned a Master of Science in data science from Duke University and a Bachelor of Science in computer science from PES University in India.
 

Advised by Dr. Timothy Dunn, his research centers on multimodal and explainable AI systems that incorporate real-world clinical evidence to enhance diagnostic reasoning and medical decision-making. His work has earned multiple Best Paper Awards at leading health machine learning conferences, including AIME and IEEE BHI.
 

Manjunath also serves as a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, collaborating with Dr. Adam Perer to design and evaluate interactive AI systems in health care. In addition to his research, he is a professional violinist who has performed in more than 700 concerts worldwide.
