Amanda (Mandy) Bates is a Leadership Coach and HR Consultant who helps leaders and organizations unleash their potential. Mandy is a proven leader who forges trusting relationships and is passionate about helping individuals find their confidence, strength, and best selves. Mandy makes a positive difference in others and gets them pointed in the direction they want to go.
Formerly, Mandy served as the Vice President of Human Resource Leadership for Indiana University Health, leaving that role in December 2022. Mandy provided strategic direction to regional and business unit HR teams across the state, with all Regional Vice Presidents and their HR teams reporting up through her.
Mandy is a committed human capital leader who thrives on being engaged in complex and innovative initiatives with enthusiasm and quick action. Mandy is system oriented and possesses an ability to assess changing needs and environment and respond appropriately. Her strengths include coaching, communications, start-up initiatives, organizational and individual change, strategic thinking, and delivering on results. Mandy values hard work, ethical behavior, optimism, and seeing the best in others. She embodies a can-do attitude.
Mandy has over 25 years of experience leading efforts in human resources, leadership development, and organizational development primarily in the healthcare industry. Mandy helped start up the largest academic physician practice plan in the state. She addressed provider burnout and created career opportunities for staff resulting in reduced turnover and vacancy rates. Mandy also spent time providing organizational development and HR support through Bates Consulting. Mandy serves on the Boards of the Risk Based Entities Health Plans for IU Health, the Tamarindo Foundation, and her neighborhood association.
Mandy is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Purdue University’s Daniels School of Business where she earned both a BS in General Management and MS in Industrial Relations. Mandy is a graduate of Coach U and holds an Associate Certified Coach designation through International Coaching Federation; she is a Certified Coach through the Institute of Social and Emotional Intelligence. She holds a Certification in Organization Development from National Training Labs. Mandy is certified in several assessment tools including Social and Emotional Intelligence Profile, California Psychological Inventory (CPI 260), and Korn Ferry 360 Assessment among others.
Mandy served a three-year appointment as Chair of the Human Resources Leadership Council for the American Medical Group Association. Mandy was named 2018 HR Professional of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce for her contributions in the field of Human Resources. Mandy received the 2019 HR Impact Award for Excellence from IU Health. IU Health Physicians has named an annual award in her honor, the Mandy Bates Excellence in Engagement Award.
Mandy enjoys tennis, golf, travel, reading, volunteering, and spending time with family.
