Bringing Light to Rare Diseases: An Awareness Event

Rare diseases are defined as conditions affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S., though definitions may vary internationally. These diseases, while individually uncommon, collectively impact a significant number of individuals. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) reports approximately 7,000 identified rare diseases, with new conditions being discovered regularly. Purdue University Chapter of NORD Students for Rare is excited to invite you to our third seminar, Bringing Light to Rare Diseases: An Awareness Event. We are thrilled to welcome Professor Erin Hoying, as our featured speaker, Abby Krout, as our Keynote speaker. Professor Erin Hoying will be discussing caring for Children with Rare Diseases: A Nurse's Perspective on Treatment, Family Impact, and Health Disparities and Abby Krout will be sharing the rare voice of her daughter who is dealing with the Phelen McDermid Syndrome.
