APRIL MAYBEE MFA Exhibition

MFA Exhibition, April Maybee, work by studio art students in Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance.

April Maybee’s artwork asks us to consider the ‘in-between’—the space in which things and people exist when they are neither this nor that—a melding of identities, a new assemblage of the human experience. She works in a variety of scales and media, from 5” sterling silver jewelry to large-scale mixed media sculpture incorporating materials such as canvas, wood, synthetic and human hair, paper, paint, and metal. Maybee uses simplicity, juxtaposition, layering, repetition and an awareness of the passage of time to explore culture through the lens of an American biracial woman of Norwegian and African descent.
