This session is designed for middle and high school teachers at the beginner to intermediate level who are looking to strengthen their computer science instruction and expand their curriculum.

Participants will explore Indiana’s 4565 Computing Foundations in a Digital Age course while building a deeper understanding of foundational concepts in artificial intelligence. The session will also highlight practical classroom applications of robotics and provide strategies for enhancing and extending existing computer science lessons.

Attendees will receive $300 in classroom supplies, hands-on experience working with classroom robotics kits, and ready-to-use instructional resources to support continued implementation. A light breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

Participants should plan to attend both days of their selected session to receive the full learning experience.

Manasi collaborates with students to recognize their emotion and thought patterns and how it impacts their daily life. She strives to integrate different forms of art into therapeutic settingsShe specializes in Anxiety, Depression, emotional regulation, multicultural adjustment difficulties for international students, neurodivergence, coping with stress and interpersonal boundaries. Manasi can offer counseling in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Outside of work, Manasi likes to hike, travel, and getting to know people from different cultures!

Yuzhu Lu, M.S. Ed., LMHC, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Yuzhu works collaboratively with clients to explore emotional patterns, identity concerns, and the impact of past experiences while also developing practical strategies for day-to-day challenges. Yuzhu’s clinical interests are depression and anxiety, international student adjustment, spiritual identity and emotional functioning, and trauma-related concerns. About the Book & Author

What does violence look like when it is not spectacular but quiet and routine?
In this intimate ethnography, a rural locale earns the nickname “Town of Dollars” thanks to the Nabueño men who served in the lowest ranks of the US Navy. Performing tasks considered beneath white sailors, these men introduced American dollars into the local economy and transformed perceptions of the good life. Explore manifestations of the Philippines’ four centuries of colonization through stories of ritual, family, migration, and labor. Everyday struggles—from flooding rice fields and precarious wage work to political patronage and overseas migration—are shaped by the layered histories of Spanish, US, and Japanese colonization and contemporary dispossession. These forms of “ambient violence," she theorizes, are neither extraordinary nor rare but harmful realities sedimented into the ordinary, becoming the atmosphere in which life unfolds.

Dada Docot is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology.
Dada received her PhD in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia, MA in Human Security Studies at the University of Tokyo, and BA in Journalism at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Her work has been shown in both academic and art environments including the Society of Visual Anthropology’s Film Festival, the UBC Museum of Anthropology, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the CaixaForum in Barcelona, and The Red House Center for Culture and Debate in Bulgaria. Dada’s research and community work have received support from the UBC Liu Institute of Global Issues, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-Canada, and Ministry of Education-Japan.

The event, titled “America @ 250: Celebrating Freedom’s Giant Leap,” is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse. The venue has been changed to accommodate demand. The event is free and open to the general public, but a ticket is required. For tickets and additional details, go here. This event will mark the first for Daniels since he returned to Purdue as interim president in July. Daniels launched the lecture series in 2014, his first full year as Purdue’s president.

Atkinson is the author of the New York Times bestselling “The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777,” the first volume of his acclaimed Revolution Trilogy. The second volume in the planned trilogy, “The Fate of the Day: The War for America, Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston, 1777-1780,” was the New York Times No. 1 nonfiction bestseller when published in 2025. The book continued Atkinson’s sweeping narrative of the Revolution, capturing the conflict’s critical middle years with vivid storytelling and deep historical insight.

Atkinson served as a historical advisor and an on-camera commentator for Ken Burns’ PBS documentary series “The American Revolution,” which commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Launched in 2014, the Presidential Lecture Series exposes Purdue students and the broader community to inspiring ideas, courageous leadership, and models of civic engagement and civil discourse. The Presidential Lecture Series has hosted some of the great intellectual, business and civic leaders of our time.

Discover how music functions as a pedagogical practice of affirmation, identity, belonging, and empowerment through interactive examples of African diasporic traditions of call-and-response.

Speaker Bio:

Jorge Perez De Jesus is a doctoral student studying Literacy and Language Education in the Curriculum and Instruction program. Jorge has served as site supervisor for the Purdue CDF Freedom School, graduate assistant for the College of Education, and program administrator at the Institute for Cancer Research. Jorge's experiences as a recruiter and community development connector make him uniquely equipped to help us build bridges — between generations, across cultures, and into neighborhoods.

The Purdue CDF Freedom School® is a community-engaged summer literacy program serving K–8 scholars through culturally relevant literacy instruction, enrichment, mentoring, and civic engagement. Central to the Freedom School experience is Harambee, a daily communal gathering rooted in collective participation, joy, and affirmation. Through motivational songs, cheers & chants, and African diasporic traditions of call-and-response, scholars are invited to use their voices collectively to affirm themselves and one another.

About the Lunch & Learn Series:

The AAARCC hosts a Lunch and Learn guest speaker series each semester on select Thursdays from 12pm-1pm at the AAARCC (915 5th St.) or a campus-specific location (listed for each session). Each Lunch and Learn features faculty, staff, and students from a variety of disciplines sharing their research or expertise. We believe each Lunch and Learn session poses a valuable opportunity for students to learn from experts and engage in meaningful discussions. In Fall 2026, the AAARCC will highlight the theme “History in Motion: Asian American Narratives, Media, and America 250.” Through this lens, we explore the possibilities inspired by the following question: What type of agency and opportunities can Boilermakers utilize to weave in the stories that don’t always fit neatly? From film, music, and sports to news broadcasters, online content creators, and AI, join us in analyzing historical and modern influencers of our shared narratives across upbringings and disciplines. We will examine where and who our histories come from, how our histories are archived and retold through media, and how we can produce cultural artifacts of our lived experiences for others to connect with. Amid a polarized national political climate, this scaffolding will prepare Boilermakers to appreciate and articulate reflections about their strengths and resilience, value of networks and community, and leadership grounded in lessons of our shared histories.

You know AI can help, but knowing how it can help with the challenge in front of you isn’t always so obvious. I’m Stuck! Practical Strategies for Using AI Where It Matters Most is designed to help you move from “I could probably use AI for this” to having a clearer idea of where to start and how to keep moving when the first response isn’t quite what you need.

We’ll explore a practical approach that starts with the problem rather than the AI tool. Using a real-world case study and focused demonstrations, we’ll show how you can work back and forth with AI by explaining what you need, adding context and constraints, evaluating the response, and refining your approach along the way.

You’ll also see this process applied to different types of teaching and everyday work challenges, with strategies for getting more useful results and recognizing when AI may not be the right fit. Rather than focusing on a single tool or formula for prompting, we’ll emphasize a flexible process you can carry into your own work and adapt as AI tools continue to evolve.

Whether you’re opening an AI tool for the first time or you’ve already experimented and found yourself wondering, “Now what?”, you’ll leave with a clearer approach for working through those moments when you’re stuck.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The 2026 Supply Chain Consulting Lecture Series connects Purdue students with experienced supply chain executives, consultants, alumni, and industry professionals to explore how organizations solve complex supply chain and operations challenges in practice.

The series is an integral part of SCOM 469 — Supply Chain and Operations Analytics Consulting, a 3-credit experiential learning course that transforms the classroom into a professional consulting environment. Student teams apply supply chain theory, data analytics, AI-enabled tools, and structured consulting methods to real-world business and industry challenges.

THE THREE-PILLAR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MODEL

Consulting & Industry Study Projects — Students learn by solving real business and industry problems through corporate-sponsored consulting engagements and advisor-guided industry studies.Mentoring Program — Experienced alumni and industry professionals coach student teams on problem solving, analytics, project management, executive storytelling, and professional development. Jeffrey R. Powers, retired IBM executive and Purdue alumnus, chairs the Industry Advisory Board.Industry Lecture Series — Practitioners bring current challenges, emerging technologies, leadership lessons, and real-world decision making directly into the classroom.

SCOM 469 builds on Purdue’s university–industry partnerships and experiential projects with organizations including Wabash, Rolls-Royce, Corteva, Taste, and other corporate and industry partners. For Fall 2026, students will work through two experiential project pathways: the corporate project Taste Omnichannel Dining Service Optimization and the industry study Enhancing Pharmaceutical Supply-Chain Resilience.

NOVEMBER 12 — Planning, Constraints & Supply Chain Systems Thinking

The final session brings together planning, constraints, technology, and systems thinking. The speakers will connect MRP/ERP concepts, bottlenecks, lessons from The Goal, and real-world planning challenges to the broader question of how supply chains operate as interconnected systems. The session will also explore supply chain career paths and how the strategic role of the supply chain function varies across industries.

CONNECTING INDUSTRY AND THE CLASSROOM

The Industry Lecture Series is not designed as a collection of stand-alone guest presentations. Each session is integrated with students’ consulting and industry-study work. Student teams are encouraged to bring questions from their projects into the classroom, apply lessons from speakers to their analyses, and reflect on how different professionals approach similar challenges across industries.

Student ambassadors will also work directly with speakers before selected sessions to help prepare and contextualize the lectures, providing another opportunity to develop professional communication, stakeholder-management, and networking skills.

Jim's research focuses on workplace courage, improvement-oriented voice (why people speak up or stay silent at work), ethical decision-making and behavior, and other leadership-related topics. This research, as well as his consulting experiences, has been conducted across a variety of global high-technology and service-oriented industries as well as public sector institutions, including K-12 education. His research has appeared in many outlets, including Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organization Science, Personnel Psychology, Research in Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Business Ethics. Detert's research has won several academic best paper awards and is regularly featured in various online and print media outlets. He is a frequent contributor to Sloan Management Review and Harvard Business Review, and the author of the book Choosing Courage: The Everyday Guide to Being Brave at Work, published by Harvard Business Review Press.

Jim received his M.A. in sociology and Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Harvard University. He also holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota and a BBA from the University of Wisconsin.

Chris works with management teams and boards of directors to drive enterprise value through growth strategies, operating model designs, and structural cost and productivity resets.

Chris is the co-author of "The Big Zero" and several thought leadership pieces related to growth, cost and productivity. Chris holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University.

Join Student Life for the annual Field of Memories, a powerful display and community event dedicated to suicide prevention, remembrance, hope, and supporting mental health and well-being across the Purdue community.

Held on the north side of Memorial Mall, Field of Memories serves as a visible reminder that every life matters and that support is available. Throughout the event, students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to reflect, remember loved ones, honor personal experiences, and show support for those impacted by mental health challenges and suicide.

Participants will have the opportunity to plant a memorial flag in the field as a symbol of remembrance, hope, or support. The growing display of flags creates a meaningful visual representation of the many lives touched by these important issues.

The event will also feature campus and community resources, opportunities for connection, and activities that encourage conversations around mental health, well-being, and suicide prevention.

After hitchhiking on a deserted road, a young woman wakes up trapped inside a mysterious, seemingly endless tube. With no way out, she must keep moving forward, facing a series of deadly obstacles that send her back to the beginning each time she fails.

Blending horror, thriller, and science fiction, Meander draws inspiration from the “die and repeat” mechanics of video games while exploring themes of survival, trauma, and perception. In this interactive session, supervisors learn practical ways to strengthen each stage of hiring — from creating an attractive, relevant job posting to identifying resume criteria, developing competency-based interview questions and using reference checks to validate what they've learned. The session explores how AI can support the work, where human judgment matters most and how every interaction contributes to the candidate experience. Manasi Deshmukh, MA, MSW, LCSW, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Manasi collaborates with students to recognize their emotion and thought patterns and how it impacts their daily life. She strives to integrate different forms of art into therapeutic settingsShe specializes in Anxiety, Depression, emotional regulation, multicultural adjustment difficulties for international students, neurodivergence, coping with stress and interpersonal boundaries. Manasi can offer counseling in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Outside of work, Manasi likes to hike, travel, and getting to know people from different cultures!

Yuzhu Lu, M.S. Ed., LMHC, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Yuzhu works collaboratively with clients to explore emotional patterns, identity concerns, and the impact of past experiences while also developing practical strategies for day-to-day challenges. Yuzhu’s clinical interests are depression and anxiety, international student adjustment, spiritual identity and emotional functioning, and trauma-related concerns. She offers counseling in English and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of work, Yuzhu enjoys singing, being in nature, and spending time with her cat, ZhenZhen.

Keith Risinger is Executive Director of Leadership Development at Eli Lilly and Company, where he has spent 27 years helping leaders and teams perform at their best. His work is grounded in the practical realities of leadership—how leaders create clarity, build discipline, strengthen trust, and translate strategy into action through the teams they lead.
Across his career, Keith has coached, taught, analyzed, and advised leaders across the company, with a consistent focus on improving performance where it matters most: in the everyday decisions, behaviors, conversations, and operating rhythms that shape team effectiveness. He helps leaders move beyond good intentions and broad leadership concepts to the practical work of setting direction, aligning effort, making tradeoffs, and creating the conditions for teams to deliver meaningful results.

Keith is known for bringing a discerning and pragmatic perspective to leadership development. He challenges conventional wisdom that may sound compelling in theory but fails to hold up in real-world environments, while embracing the principles, practices, and insights that have consistently created value over time. His approach blends internal experience with external perspective, including work with universities and leading thought leaders who help bring research, challenge, and fresh thinking to the way leaders learn and grow.

Outside of work, Keith enjoys life with his wife, Jill, and their two children, Grace and Ryan. He is also an avid fly fisherman who appreciates the patience, focus, and presence the sport requires—qualities that show up in both his time on the water and his work with leaders and teams.

His pioneering research examines Idlewild’s development as a celebrated Black resort community and its significance to African American leisure, entrepreneurship, landownership, migration, and cultural life. He is the author of Idlewild: The Black Eden of Michigan and Idlewild: The Rise, Decline, and Rebirth of a Unique African American Resort Town, foundational works informing this exhibition.

Manasi Deshmukh, MA, MSW, LCSW, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Manasi collaborates with students to recognize their emotion and thought patterns and how it impacts their daily life. She strives to integrate different forms of art into therapeutic settingsShe specializes in Anxiety, Depression, emotional regulation, multicultural adjustment difficulties for international students, neurodivergence, coping with stress and interpersonal boundaries. Manasi can offer counseling in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Outside of work, Manasi likes to hike, travel, and getting to know people from different cultures!

Yuzhu Lu, M.S. Ed., LMHC, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Yuzhu works collaboratively with clients to explore emotional patterns, identity concerns, and the impact of past experiences while also developing practical strategies for day-to-day challenges. Yuzhu’s clinical interests are depression and anxiety, international student adjustment, spiritual identity and emotional functioning, and trauma-related concerns. She offers counseling in English and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of work, Yuzhu enjoys singing, being in nature, and spending time with her cat, ZhenZhen.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The 2026 Supply Chain Consulting Lecture Series connects Purdue students with experienced supply chain executives, consultants, alumni, and industry professionals to explore how organizations solve complex supply chain and operations challenges in practice.

The series is an integral part of SCOM 469 — Supply Chain and Operations Analytics Consulting, a 3-credit experiential learning course that transforms the classroom into a professional consulting environment. Student teams apply supply chain theory, data analytics, AI-enabled tools, and structured consulting methods to real-world business and industry challenges.

THE THREE-PILLAR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MODEL

Consulting & Industry Study Projects — Students learn by solving real business and industry problems through corporate-sponsored consulting engagements and advisor-guided industry studies.Mentoring Program — Experienced alumni and industry professionals coach student teams on problem solving, analytics, project management, executive storytelling, and professional development. Jeffrey R. Powers, retired IBM executive and Purdue alumnus, chairs the Industry Advisory Board.Industry Lecture Series — Practitioners bring current challenges, emerging technologies, leadership lessons, and real-world decision making directly into the classroom.

SCOM 469 builds on Purdue’s university–industry partnerships and experiential projects with organizations including Wabash, Rolls-Royce, Corteva, Taste, and other corporate and industry partners. For Fall 2026, students will work through two experiential project pathways: the corporate project Taste Omnichannel Dining Service Optimization and the industry study Enhancing Pharmaceutical Supply-Chain Resilience.

OCTOBER 29 — AI in Supply Chain: From Consulting Strategy to Everyday Execution

AI is changing both how consultants solve problems and how supply chain professionals perform everyday work. This session explores practical applications of AI, analytics, automation, and emerging technologies—from consulting strategy and transformation initiatives to operational decision support, procurement, and day-to-day execution.

NOVEMBER 12 — Planning, Constraints & Supply Chain Systems Thinking

Kyle Harshbarger — Supply Chain Engineer, Marathon Petroleum
Lauren Heiss — Senior Technology Consultant, EY

The final session brings together planning, constraints, technology, and systems thinking. The speakers will connect MRP/ERP concepts, bottlenecks, lessons from The Goal, and real-world planning challenges to the broader question of how supply chains operate as interconnected systems. The session will also explore supply chain career paths and how the strategic role of the supply chain function varies across industries.

CONNECTING INDUSTRY AND THE CLASSROOM

The Industry Lecture Series is not designed as a collection of stand-alone guest presentations. Each session is integrated with students’ consulting and industry-study work. Student teams are encouraged to bring questions from their projects into the classroom, apply lessons from speakers to their analyses, and reflect on how different professionals approach similar challenges across industries.

Student ambassadors will also work directly with speakers before selected sessions to help prepare and contextualize the lectures, providing another opportunity to develop professional communication, stakeholder-management, and networking skills.

Randy Haines is an accomplished supply chain executive with over 20 years of experience spanning large multibillion dollar manufacturing organizations to 2 startups he founded. Randy completed his undergraduate degree from Krannert (now Daniels) in Management and returned back to West Lafayette 4 years after his undergraduate degree to earn his MBA in the weekend program. Randy is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity where he still keeps in touch with many of his brothers and has strengthened his professional network.

He started his career in supply chain in East Chicago, Indiana, working for ArcelorMittal, the largest steel company in the world at the time. He quickly rose through the procurement ranks becoming the youngest category manager in his department while having the most spend under management, roughly $300mm. After 4 years there, he transitioned to the food industry, working for Smithfield Foods, the world's largest pork producer, in their newly formed Strategic Sourcing department in downtown Chicago. Again, he quickly advanced in the organization where he was the Managing Analyst responsible for all sourcing analytical activities as well as overall category strategy design.

After 6 years at Smithfield, he set out to scratch his entrepreneurial itch and co-founded a boutique procurement consulting firm, Strategic Buying Group headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois. Randy grew this business over 5.5 years before Smithfield brought him back to corporate America to be their Chief Procurement Officer. He once again advanced quickly and in less than 6 months, his role was expanded to also manage the Transportation and Warehousing operations, adding Senior Vice President of Supply Chain to his title. He was responsible for $3 billion in expense, 1100 employees, 7 distribution centers, over 35 third party warehouses, roughly 600 private and dedicated trucks and procurement for over 40 manufacturing facilities.

The second venture Randy founded after 4 years at Smithfield and taking 6 months off for "temporary retirement" is ScaleBridge. He currently serves as the President and Founder.

ScaleBridge is a supply chain management platform that acts as an extension of their clients' teams to solve problems for manufacturers in transportation, warehousing and procurement. With decades of experience on their core team and established, vetted and trusted partners, ScaleBridge acts as the general contractor for their clients to bring the right tools, processes and teams to execute on their problem statement. Engagements range from redesigning processes coupled with technology deployment to full supply chain transformation at publicly traded multibillion dollar organizations. ScaleBridge is privately held with no outside investment that has quickly grown and continues to scale both with internal resources (both human capital and AI agents) and strategic partnerships that augment staff and capabilities.

Randy is an Indiana native, raised in "The Region" and then moving to Chicago post college. Currently, he resides in Williamsburg, Virginia, with his wife of 13 years and 10- and 8-year-old boys. Randy is an avid golfer and boater and enjoys traveling both for work and pleasure with his family.

David Malpass is a leading economic analyst who served as president of the World Bank Group from 2019-2023. He is a Daniels School Distinguished Fellow of International Finance and the inaugural Fellow of Global Business and Infrastructure at Purdue@DC.

At the PURCE luncheon, Malpass will explore how the U.S. has deindustrialized, causing dependency on China's economies of scale and why dependency is an economic and national security risk. Malpass contends many hard steps and big investments are needed to reindustrialize.

She strives to integrate different forms of art into therapeutic settingsShe specializes in Anxiety, Depression, emotional regulation, multicultural adjustment difficulties for international students, neurodivergence, coping with stress and interpersonal boundaries. Manasi can offer counseling in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Outside of work, Manasi likes to hike, travel, and getting to know people from different cultures!

Yuzhu Lu, M.S. Ed., LMHC, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Yuzhu works collaboratively with clients to explore emotional patterns, identity concerns, and the impact of past experiences while also developing practical strategies for day-to-day challenges. Yuzhu’s clinical interests are depression and anxiety, international student adjustment, spiritual identity and emotional functioning, and trauma-related concerns. Timothy J. Cartwright is a founding partner at Fifth Avenue Family Office. Fifth Avenue Family Office serves a select group of high net-worth families with multigenerational wealth. Fifth Avenue provides a broad range of services from investment management to sophisticated estate planning, evaluation of private equity and venture investment opportunities, succession and exit strategies for closely held businesses, and thoughtful multi-generational legacy transfers.

Prior, he co-founded By-Products Interactive, an electronic trading, market research and publishing company which he sold in 2021 to Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, a FTSE 250 Public Company. Earlier, he founded Benchmark Solutions, a supply chain consulting company, which was sold in 1999. He began his career working with middle market companies at Arthur Andersen in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Cartwright recently completed a 12-year term as a member of the Florida Gulf Coast University’s Foundation Board, finishing as Chair of the Board. During this time, he was a prime mover in starting the Institute for Entrepreneurship which grew into the DK School of Entrepreneurship at FGCU where he served as Adjunct Professor for six semesters. For the eighth consecutive year, he was named by Florida Trend Magazine to their list of Florida’s 500 Most Influential Business Leaders due to his venture capital and private equity activity with the Tamiami Angel Funds and Adrenaline Venture Fund. He resides in Naples and has three grown children. He is a softball coach, a soccer coach, and an active member of First Baptist Church of Naples.

Time: Sept. 16 and Oct. 14, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM

This session is designed for middle and high school teachers at the beginner to intermediate level who are looking to strengthen their computer science instruction and expand their curriculum.

Participants will explore Indiana’s 4565 Computing Foundations in a Digital Age course while building a deeper understanding of foundational concepts in artificial intelligence. The session will also highlight practical classroom applications of robotics and provide strategies for enhancing and extending existing computer science lessons.

Attendees will receive $300 in classroom supplies, hands-on experience working with classroom robotics kits, and ready-to-use instructional resources to support continued implementation. A light breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

Participants should plan to attend both days of their selected session to receive the full learning experience.

Manasi collaborates with students to recognize their emotion and thought patterns and how it impacts their daily life. She strives to integrate different forms of art into therapeutic settingsShe specializes in Anxiety, Depression, emotional regulation, multicultural adjustment difficulties for international students, neurodivergence, coping with stress and interpersonal boundaries. Manasi can offer counseling in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Outside of work, Manasi likes to hike, travel, and getting to know people from different cultures!

Yuzhu Lu, M.S. Ed., LMHC, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Yuzhu works collaboratively with clients to explore emotional patterns, identity concerns, and the impact of past experiences while also developing practical strategies for day-to-day challenges. Yuzhu’s clinical interests are depression and anxiety, international student adjustment, spiritual identity and emotional functioning, and trauma-related concerns. She offers counseling in English and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of work, Yuzhu enjoys singing, being in nature, and spending time with her cat, ZhenZhen.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The 2026 Supply Chain Consulting Lecture Series connects Purdue students with experienced supply chain executives, consultants, alumni, and industry professionals to explore how organizations solve complex supply chain and operations challenges in practice.

The series is an integral part of SCOM 469 — Supply Chain and Operations Analytics Consulting, a 3-credit experiential learning course that transforms the classroom into a professional consulting environment. Student teams apply supply chain theory, data analytics, AI-enabled tools, and structured consulting methods to real-world business and industry challenges.

THE THREE-PILLAR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MODEL

Consulting & Industry Study Projects — Students learn by solving real business and industry problems through corporate-sponsored consulting engagements and advisor-guided industry studies.Mentoring Program — Experienced alumni and industry professionals coach student teams on problem solving, analytics, project management, executive storytelling, and professional development. Jeffrey R. Powers, retired IBM executive and Purdue alumnus, chairs the Industry Advisory Board.Industry Lecture Series — Practitioners bring current challenges, emerging technologies, leadership lessons, and real-world decision making directly into the classroom.

SCOM 469 builds on Purdue’s university–industry partnerships and experiential projects with organizations including Wabash, Rolls-Royce, Corteva, Taste, and other corporate and industry partners. For Fall 2026, students will work through two experiential project pathways: the corporate project Taste Omnichannel Dining Service Optimization and the industry study Enhancing Pharmaceutical Supply-Chain Resilience.

NOVEMBER 12 — Planning, Constraints & Supply Chain Systems Thinking

The final session brings together planning, constraints, technology, and systems thinking. The speakers will connect MRP/ERP concepts, bottlenecks, lessons from The Goal, and real-world planning challenges to the broader question of how supply chains operate as interconnected systems. The session will also explore supply chain career paths and how the strategic role of the supply chain function varies across industries.

CONNECTING INDUSTRY AND THE CLASSROOM

The Industry Lecture Series is not designed as a collection of stand-alone guest presentations. Each session is integrated with students’ consulting and industry-study work. Student teams are encouraged to bring questions from their projects into the classroom, apply lessons from speakers to their analyses, and reflect on how different professionals approach similar challenges across industries.

Student ambassadors will also work directly with speakers before selected sessions to help prepare and contextualize the lectures, providing another opportunity to develop professional communication, stakeholder-management, and networking skills.

Aaron Lai, CFA, is an executive and thought leader in data, analytics, and AI strategy, with more than two decades of experience across healthcare, financial services, and management consulting. He currently serves as a Senior Fellow at Purdue University’s Krenicki Center for Business Analytics & Machine Learning and was most recently Director of Data & Analytics at Manifest MedEx, one of California’s major health information exchanges.

Mr. Lai has held leadership and expert roles at PwC Advisory, Castlight Health, Blue Shield of California, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, and Wells Fargo Bank. His work focuses on applying advanced analytics and risk management to complex business and societal challenges. He holds two U.S. patents and has authored more than 40 publications and conference papers across data science, healthcare, finance, and AI.

A Purdue MBA alumnus, Mr. Lai is currently pursuing a Doctor of Technology at Purdue University, where his research examines the use of large language models for pre-emergency department triage in disaster response, with a focus on Responsible AI. He also holds two master’s degrees from the University of Oxford: an M.Sc. in Evidence-Based Healthcare and an M.Sc. in Sociology.

Exploring Engineering at Purdue is sponsored by the Women in Engineering Program and is open to all high school juniors and seniors. A parent, guardian or teacher is required to attend with the participant.

This event connects participants with engineering career professionals and staff members, and offers the chance to explore engineering majors, pathways, and experiential opportunities of their choice.

Purdue is pleased to host this highly acclaimed grant writing program. The workshop emphasizes idea development, identifying the most appropriate funding agency, writing effectively for reviewers, and proven strategies for presenting a compelling proposal.

Participants will receive intensive grant writing instruction interspersed with agency-specific guidance.

Each participant will select one of four agency-specific workbooks:

About the Presenter

Dr. John Robertson received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from The University of Texas at Austin. He joined the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2004, where he served as a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology & Therapeutics and as an associate member of the University of Kansas Cancer Center.

Dr. Robertson has received competitive funding from both NIH and non-federal sponsors, authored 30 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters, served on grant review panels and journal editorial boards, and has been consistently recognized for excellence in teaching.

Who Should Attend

This full-day workshop is designed for faculty and full-time research staff who have some experience writing grant applications. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, or undergraduate students.

Each workbook costs $75, which the participant’s college will cover. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to participants; however, we order lunches and workbooks for each registrant, so those who register are expected to attend. Because the workshop builds throughout the day, participants are encouraged to avoid scheduling conflicts whenever possible. Those who register but do not attend will not receive a workbook.

Meet Your Liaisons:

Manasi Deshmukh, MA, MSW, LCSW, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Manasi collaborates with students to recognize their emotion and thought patterns and how it impacts their daily life. She strives to integrate different forms of art into therapeutic settingsShe specializes in Anxiety, Depression, emotional regulation, multicultural adjustment difficulties for international students, neurodivergence, coping with stress and interpersonal boundaries. Manasi can offer counseling in English, Hindi, and Marathi. Outside of work, Manasi likes to hike, travel, and getting to know people from different cultures!

Yuzhu Lu, M.S. Ed., LMHC, (She/Her) is a staff therapist at Counseling and Psychological Services. Yuzhu works collaboratively with clients to explore emotional patterns, identity concerns, and the impact of past experiences while also developing practical strategies for day-to-day challenges. Yuzhu’s clinical interests are depression and anxiety, international student adjustment, spiritual identity and emotional functioning, and trauma-related concerns. She offers counseling in English and Mandarin Chinese. Outside of work, Yuzhu enjoys singing, being in nature, and spending time with her cat, ZhenZhen.

Rupal is the 2026 recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash, one of Indiana’s highest honors, recognizing her exceptional service and contributions to the state.

Time: October 22, 2026 from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Eastern Time

This session is designed for educators with little to no experience in computer science who are interested in building foundational knowledge and exploring practical ways to bring computer science into their classrooms.

Participants will gain an understanding of what computer science is and how it can be meaningfully integrated into a variety of subjects. The session will include introductory coding activities and strategies for incorporating computer science concepts into existing lesson plans.

Attendees will receive a micro:bit device for classroom use, along with ready-to-use lesson ideas to support continued implementation. A light breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

Each Lunch and Learn features faculty, staff, and students from a variety of disciplines sharing their research or expertise. We believe each Lunch and Learn session poses a valuable opportunity for students to learn from experts and engage in meaningful discussions.

Heath Billingsley grew up in southern Illinois working in his family’s agricultural retail business, where he developed an early appreciation for the critical role supply chains play in agriculture. After earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from Tulane University, he built a global career spanning agriculture, manufacturing, and supply chain leadership.

During his 17 years at Monsanto, Heath held a variety of leadership roles across the Crop Protection and Seeds businesses. A highlight of that time was building a greenfield production facility in Brazil, an experience that triggered his passion for leading teams in a global business context.

Since joining Syngenta in 2012, Heath has held senior leadership positions across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia. He currently leads supply chain operations for Syngenta’s North America Crop Protection business, with end-to-end accountability for balancing customer service, cost, and working capital across a complex supply network.

Heath serves on the MBA Advisory Board of the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics at University of North Carolina Greensboro, where he works with students and faculty to connect academic concepts with real-world business challenges and enjoys sharing lessons from his global leadership experience in supply chain operations and business transformation. He also serves on the Board of Directors of United Way of Greater Greensboro, where he contributes his experience in strategy, operations, and organizational leadership to support the organization's mission and strengthen its impact in the community.

Outside of work, he enjoys classic cars, cooking, travel, and spending time with his wife and two children in Greensboro, NC.
